In the TH Last Year the Winner was Bill

Start of a very good year for Bill . . . (and no, that isn’t Bill)
In case you were wondering  . . .  I finished next to last

We move to Oahu from Maui for the Sony Open.  This event has been on the calendar since 1965, when Gay Brewer defeated Bob Goalby in a playoff.   Known then as the Hawaiian Open, his victory earned Mr. Brewer $9000.

The 1st place money actually went down the next year to $8500 . . .  but rebounded very nicely to $20,000 in 1967, when Dudley Wysong was the winner!  Not familiar with Dudley?  He was a two time champion on tour and the guy Jack beat 8 and 6 in 1961. to win the U.S. Amateur.

In case you weren’t sure, that’s him on the left . . . a yellow smiley face with black eyes

Jack looks happier

While this event boasts many big name champions, it doesn’t often have a real strong field.  (Could be a challenge constructing your team . . . although there are a few from the Sentry showing good form)

Perhaps it is best remembered for inviting a teenage Michele Wie . . . who played four times, always missing the cut.

FUN FACT:  In 1983, this is where Isso Aoki  became the first golfer from Japan to win on the PGA Tour.  He holed out a wedge for an eagle 3 on the 72nd hole . . . to win by a single stroke.
