WM Phoenix Open 376

This Week the Waste Management Phoenix Open

Held at TPC Scottsdale

7266 yards Par 71

The Defending Champion is Scottie Scheffler

This looks very similar to the 2022 Champion

I am sensing a theme

In the TH Last Year the Champion was Hedge

There is a reason he won the winter swing

It is that time again . . . sit back, have a drink or six,  you can even watch some golf if you want.  Given past excesses at the Par 3 16th, the tournament has cracked down . . . but it is still the stadium course and they will still be selling beer . . .

The roots of this event go back to the Arizona Open in 1932, where Ralph Guldahl was the winner and he took home $600.  Ralph is a three time major champion and member of the Hall of Fame.  Last year this was a big money, premium event . . . this year we are back to regular money . . . which means the winner only gets $1.5 million.

Two time U.S. Open champ and won the ’39 Masters

FUN FACT:   In 2001, Andrew Magee made a hole in one on the 332 yard par 4 17th . . . the first ace on a par 4 in tour history.  Magee didn’t think he could reach and teed off while the group in front was putting.  Tom Byrum was squatting down to line up his putt, Magee’s ball rolled between his legs, ricocheted off his putter and into the cup.  Outside agency . . . hole in one !
