The Men’s second major of the year.  Arnold Palmer, Tom Watson and Jordan Spieth need(ed) the PGA to complete the career grand slam.  This event was first contested in 1916 where the late, great Jim Barnes won the first of his two PGA Championships.  There were only 30 contestants at that first running.   This championship was match play until 1957.  However it wasn’t profitable and TV didn’t like the possibility the final day would feature two golfers no one wanted to watch.  So it went to stroke play in 1958 and the reason was . . . money . . . some things never change.

Held this year at the famous Valhalla Golf Course, a venue that has hosted a variety of big events.  2014 was the last time  it was here and Rory won his second PGA.   He had already won the Open Championship that year . . . and has not won a Major since . . . but then again he did pretty well last week.  And before that was 2000 and we all know what that means . . . Tiger beats Bob May in a playoff.

FUN FACT:  The Wanamaker Trophy is 2 and half feet high and weighs 27 pounds (1.9 stone) . . . and  Walter Hagen lost it!!!   He told a taxi driver to take it to his hotel . . .  and it disappeared.  It showed up a few years later in the basement of the factory that made his clubs.
