Shout out to Radar who won the Wells Fargo last year

This week we travel to scenic New Jersey for the LPGA Founders Cup.  This tournament Honors the 13 founders of the LPGA.  First played in 2011, where Karrie Webb took home the trophy.  The last surviving Founder, Marlene Hagge, died just about a year ago.  So this will be the first running with all the founders having passed.  All 13 were inducted into the HoF as a group last year.

When this tournament was first played, surviving founders would sit near the 18th green and as players finished their round, they would stop, shake hands and thank them.  The PGA Tour could take a lesson and do something to honor and remember their history.  It would be particularly relevant given the current state of the Men’s game.

FUN FACT:  At the inaugural running in 2011, for the first time in LPGA history, the players did not receive money.  Half of the $1 million purse was donated to charity and the other half to charities chosen by the top-10 finishers.  Everyone who made the cut received “virtual” earnings for purposes of the official money list.  This was such a hit that the next year they decided to actually pay the players.
