The Hero World Challenge 67

This Week it is the Silly Season

Tiger’s Hero World Challenge

Held at the Albany GC Bahamas

7414 Yards  Par 72

The Defending Champion is Scottie Scheffler

It is that time again, 20 of the top golfers in the world travel to one of the most exclusive resorts in the world to play in an event to benefit Tiger’s foundation.  It is on the PGA schedule . . .  but is not an official event . . .  everyone wins money . . .  but it isn’t counted for tour prize totals . . .  no FedEx points . . .  but it does have world ranking points . . . which is more than LIV can boast.

This event has been around since January 2000, which is something considering Tiger had not yet really started being . . . Tiger.  The first champion was Tom Lehman, who got a million dollars of unofficial money.

The format is limited to 20, the four major champions and the winner of the Players all get automatic bids.  The defending champion and the top 11 ranked players who want to come and Tiger gets two sponsor invites.  I wonder if Bryson, who is currently #10 in the OWGR, gets to come?  Spoiler Alert – He does not.

FUN FACT:   Jordan and Henrik were in a race to finish last in 2021, when they teed off from the wrong box, receiving a two shot penalty.  They were very apologetic during their post-round press conference  . . . NOT

Still not picking this week so we are still stuck with stimulating conversation and debate . . . so building on the two shot penalty for using the wrong tee . . . this week’s topic is Golf Rules that need to be changed !!!!

To get us started Met and MX will each tell you what must be changed and why . . . and then reluctantly everyone else gets to chime in . . .

MX:  Rule 8.1 of the Rules of Golf addresses improving the situation in which a golf ball has come to rest. The rule prohibits “moving, bending or breaking anything growing or fixed,” moving or pressing down the surface on which the ball lies, making or removing “irregularities” on the playing surface, or moving any form of water (including dew or frost) . . . AND . . . Rule 16.1 – Abnormal Course Conditions (Including Immovable Obstructions.)  The Rule covers free relief that is allowed from interference from animal holes, ground under repair, immovable obstruction and  Temporary Water.

The rules of golf should be amended so that a divot that has not been repaired and footprints or other man-made marks in a bunker (except those to groom or repair the bunker i.e. rake marks) be classified as ground under repair and with a free drop no closer to the hole

Metro: Out Of Bounds. Why is OB more of a penalty than a water hazard? No idea, but I think it makes sense to treat white stakes the same as red or yellow.

Number 2. Sprinkler head just off the green between my ball and the putting surface. It’s an immovable obstruction and I shouldn’t have to chip my ball over it because it’s in the way of me putting it.

Your Opinion?
