Pebble Beach Pro Am 123

This week the Pebble Beach Pro-Am

The Amateur winner in 2011 . . . Carl Spackler is a Pebble Beach Champion

Played at Pebble Beach and Spyglass Hill

PB  6972 yards Par 72 /  SGH  7041 yards Par 72

Defending Champion is Wyndam Clark

In the TH the Defending Champion is J J

Started by Bing Crosby in 1937, the first Champion was Sam Snead.  The official record says he won $500, although some say it was $700  . . .  What is not in dispute is that he wanted it in cash.  This event is played over the two courses the first two days . . . the final two rounds are played at Pebble.

Two players have won this event five times . . . probably not the two you would think . . .  Phil Mickelson and Mark O’Meara.   Tiger has won only once . . . in 2000 by 2.  Of course that was the year he came back to Pebble to win the U.S. Open by 15 strokes . . . that with a triple bogey in the third round.

FUN FACT:  Gene Littler holds a unique record . . .  he won the 1975 event as a pro and in 1954 as the amateur partner . . . the only person to have done both.

This is a Premium event, big money, star studded field and NO cut.  (you know what that means).
