To Florida for Arnie’s event, a home game for most.  This is a $20 million signature event, which means a limited field with a 36 hole cut to the top 50 or those within 10 shots of the leader.   Last year this was Kurt’s first and so far only victory on the PGA Tour . . . always nice when your first pays $3.6 million.

This event evolved from the Florida Citrus Open which was first played in 1966.  Lionel Herbert won the inaugural event, the last of his five PGA tour victories.  Arnold won here in 1971.

FUN FACT:  Lionel won the 1957 PGA Championship, the last running that was conducted as match play.  Converting to stroke play in ’58 . . .  His older brother Jay won the PGA in 1960.

Arnold put his name on this event beginning in 2007.  This tournament has always drawn the big names and the list of past champions is a walk through the HoF . . .  Tiger has won this event eight times . . .

Still none bigger than the King
