This event has started in 1983 as the Panasonic Las Vegas Pro-Celebrity Classic, where Fuzzy Zoeller was champion and took home $135,000. At it’s creation it had the highest total purse on tour, so Fuzzy was a happy camper. It turned into the Panasonic Invitational the next year and then evolved into the Las Vegas Invitational. Eventually the Shriners came on board in 1983 and have been the title sponsor ever since. Our Defending Champion bears a remarkable resemblance to the previous year’s winner, as Tom has won this event two times running.
FUN FACT: In 1996, Tiger defeated Davis Love here in a playoff for his very first win on the PGA tour. Just 81 more to go.
